چکیده

Boron abundances have been derived for seven main sequence B-type stars from HST STIS spectra around the B III 2066Å line. In two stars, boron appears to be undepleted with respect to the presumed initial abundance. In one star, boron is detectable but it is clearly depleted. In the other four stars, boron is undetectable implying depletions of 1 to 2 dex. Three of these four stars are nitrogen enriched, but the fourth shows no enrichment of nitrogen. Only rotationally induced mixing predicts that boron depletions are unaccompanied by nitrogen enrichments. The inferred rate of boron depletion from our observations is in good agreement with these predictions. Other boron-depleted nitrogen-normal stars are identified from the Based on observations made with the NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope, obtained at the Space Telescope Science Institute, which is operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy, Inc., under NASA contract NAS 5-26555. These observations are associated with proposal GO#07400. University of Minnesota, Department of Astronomy, Minneapolis, MN, 55455

Presupernova Evolution of Rotating Massive Stars II: Evolution of the Surface Properties

We investigate the evolution of the surface properties of models for rotating massive stars, i.e., their luminosities, effective temperatures, surface rotational velocities, and surface abundances of all isotopes, from the zero age main sequence to the supernova stage. Our results are based on the grid of stellar models by Heger et al. (2000), which covers solar metallicity stars in the initial...

Pristine Cno Abundances from Magellanic Cloud B Stars. Ii. Fast Rotators in the Large Magellanic Cloud Cluster Ngc 2004

We present spectroscopic abundance analyses of three main-sequence B stars in the young Large Magellanic Cloud cluster NGC 2004. All three targets have projected rotational velocities around 130 km s . Techniques are presented that allow the derivation of stellar parameters and chemical abundances in spite of these high v sin i values. Together with previous analyses of stars in this cluster, w...

Halo Star Lithium Depletion

The depletion of lithium during the pre-main sequence and main sequence phases of stellar evolution plays a crucial role in the comparison of the predictions of big bang nucleosynthesis with the abundances observed in halo stars. Previous work has indicated a wide range of possible depletion factors, ranging from minimal in standard (non-rotating) stellar models to as much as an order of magnit...

Lithium depletion and the rotational history of exoplanet host stars

Context. It has been reported that exoplanet host stars are lithium depleted compared to solar-type stars without detected massive planets. Aims. We investigate whether enhanced lithium depletion in exoplanet host stars may result from their rotational history. Methods. We have developed rotational evolution models for slow and fast solar-type rotators from the pre-main sequence (PMS) to the ag...

Implications of a Subthreshold Resonance for Stellar Beryllium Depletion

Abundance measurements of the light elements lithium, beryllium, and boron are playing an increasingly important role in the study of stellar physics. Because these elements are easily destroyed in stars at temperatures (2–4) × 10K, the abundances in the surface convective zone are diagnostics of the star’s internal workings. Standard stellar models cannot explain depletion patterns observed in...
